After reading numerous articles on techniques I came across the one which described using a great bit of software <a href=\"http:\/\/chdk.wikia.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CHDK <\/a>which added a load more functionality to my Cannon G10 camera. It took several cold nights of trying different settings and leaving the camera out all night snapping away. A long exposure time of around 30 seconds seemed to work best, then set the camera to keep taking photos until the battery ran out.
