Dark matter collider

Another massive stone (just for a change) clear quartz shot through with dozens of black tourmaline lines, brings to mind the pictures of particle collisions in a bubble chamber. A subatomic collision, tearing apart matter to reveal layers of hidden complexity in a starburst of darkness (loving these arty descriptions)

Built a framework of 1.5mm wire to form the ring and a matching tension setting to hold the stone. Lots of precise cutting and soldering to form the structures. Works really well, the wide ring helps support the weight of the stone and stop it twisting yet keeps the whole thing light. Had to roughen the edges of the stone to get a better grip and stop it just sliding out. Lots of bending on the tension setting to get the metal nice and springy.
